Dreamstar Lines is making progress on a bold plan to launch an overnight passenger service between Los Angeles and San Franciso. CEO Joshua Dominic reveals how the company’s premium service will work to Kevin Smith.
SOUTHERN Pacific’s Lark, which ran from Los Angeles to San Francisco in the early to mid-20th century, was a high-end overnight service valued by businesspeople travelling between the two west coast cities. Passengers could enjoy deluxe Pullman sleeping accommodation and a sophisticated restaurant where breakfast and dinner were served, and business deals were often thrashed out.
The growing popularity of air travel led to the Lark’s steady decline. The last overnight train operated in 1968. And while Amtrak’s Los Angeles - Oakland - Seattle - Vancouver Coast Starlight does run through the night, the southern and central California segment is a day service on both the north and southbound legs.
